September is a month of endings – of summer, long days and warm nights – and of beginnings – a new season, new school year and, to some extent, new TV shows.

That truism is less true in these days of streaming and strikes, but there are still plenty of things to look forward to in the coming month.

September has become a time to launch big fantasy epics with Prime Video's The Wheel of Time kicking off the month with its season-two premiere on September 1. Last year at this time, fantasy fans were reveling in both HBO's Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, and Prime Video's Lord of the Rings prequel, The Rings of Power. The Wheel of Time, based on Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson's epic novels, first debuted on Prime Video in November 2021.

AMC premieres its latest Walking Dead spin-off, this one featuring fan-favorite Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) who has somehow crossed the ocean to make his way to equally zombie-infested France. It's still a story about a world taken over by zombies but at least the location is wholly new.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny are back with their real-life Ted Lasso story, Welcome to Wrexham, in which the boys bought an entire Premier League squad, Wrexham AFC, and created a TV show around it.

Jon Hamm joins Apple TV Plus' The Morning Show, starring and executive produced by A-listers Jennifer Aniston and Reese Aniston, to shake things up in season three. As Billy Crudup's hustling executive, Cory Ellison, says in the trailer, “Let's burn it all down.”

Broadcast network premieres return in the third week of the month, with Fox bringing back Celebrity Name That Tune, Kitchen Nightmares and The Masked Singer. And FX starts American Horror Story back up just in time for spooky season. Come back next month to see what's on tap for that.
