In New York City, DBT plastered the Grand Central Shuttle with scenes from this season of the iconic sci-fi series, including the TARDIS, 1960s London, Regency Era, Alien Planet, Prehistoric Earth and Spaceship. Gatwa (Barbie, Masters of the Air, Sex Education) appeared on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers on May 2. The subway takeover is mentioned and shown at the 2-minute mark.
Throughout May and June, DBT is placing replicas of the series’ time-traveling call box – aka TARDIS – in prominent places, including Disneyland in Anaheim, Disney Springs in Orlando and Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.
In honor of the new season, DBT held a gala premiere event on May 8 at the NeueHouse Hollywood, which featured a TARDIS-blue carpet, a screening of the season premiere and a “timey-wimey” after party that was all about the world of Doctor Who.
Gatwa and Gibson attended the party along with the show’s creative team: Russell T Davies, showrunner, executive producer and writer, as well as executive producers Jane Tranter, Julie Gardner, Phil Collinson and Joel Collins. Guests included Alex Borstein (Family Guy, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Kari Byron (MythBusters), Dan Povenmire (Phineas and Ferb), Rick and Becky Riordan (Percy Jackson and the Olympians), Dua Saleh (Sex Education) and many more. DBT President Ayo Davis was on hand to introduce the screening.
