It’s a dream come true when four-time Grammy-winning singer-songwriter SZA meets one of her heroes, seven-time Olympic medalist gymnast Simone Biles, in NBCUniversal’s above spot for the coming Paris Olympics.
SZA, a former gymnast herself, willingly joins Biles – widely considered to be the greatest female gymnast of all time – in a handstand contest and even tries to take her down.
“That was so good,” Biles cheers afterwards, impressed by SZA’s efforts.

“SZA and Simone's mutual admiration for each other's talents provide a preview of the incredible competition in store at the Paris Olympics,” said Joseph Lee, SVP, creative marketing, sports and entertainment at NBCUniversal in a statement. “Their shared joy in being together shows the cultural excitement we will experience as we watch these athletes compete.”
Over the weekend, Biles competed at the 2024 U.S. Olympics Gymnastics Team Trials, securing herself a spot on her third U.S. Olympic Team, which also includes returnees Suni Lee and Jordan Chiles, both of whom were on the U.S.’s silver-winning team in Tokyo in 2020, as well as Jade Carey, who went to Tokyo as an individual qualifier, and 16-year-old newcomer Hezly Rivera. Biles famously exited the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, explaining that she was having mental-health issues that were jeopardizing her physical safety.
Having won her berth on the U.S. team with a more than five-point lead over her teammate, Lee, Biles hopes to become the first woman to win two all-around Olympic titles since Věra Čáslavská of Czechoslovakia in 1964 and 1968. Already in 2024, Biles has won her eighth and ninth U.S. all-around titles at the Core Hydration Classic and the U.S. Gymnastics Championship in May and June, respectively.
Additional clips from the conversation between SZA and Biles will air within NBCUniversal’s coverage of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and on social platforms. Previous NBC promos for the Paris Games featured Grammy award-winning rapper Cardi B chatting with Team USA sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson.
The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, scheduled for July 26 through August 11, will air on NBC and its streaming platform Peacock in the U.S. as well as on Telemundo for Spanish-language audiences.
