Watching TV during the holidays is mostly about comfort and nostalgia – hence lots of reruns of Elf and A Christmas Story or of bundling up on the couch, pouring a glass or three of wine and taking in a few hopelessly romantic Hallmark or Lifetime holiday movies.

Month-long holiday programming events can be found on multiple cable networks, including Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas, Lifetime's It's a Wonderful Lifetime, Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, AMC's Best Christmas Ever, TNT and TBS' Winter Break and Great American Family's Great American Christmas. Streaming services – including Apple TV Plus, Disney Plus, Netflix, BET Plus and more – also have been getting into the holiday act with original movies and specials of their own.
