The rebranded MGM Plus, from the service formerly known as Epix, will launch Sunday, January 15, with the season-three premiere of Godfather of Harlem, starring Forest Whitaker.

“It's a new beginning for our service, as we introduce MGM Plus and its distinctive brand promise to viewers on January 15. MGM Plus will deliver on its iconic and beloved studio legacy, with cinematic, sophisticated, and transportive storytelling that audiences love,” said Michael Wright, head of MGM Plus, in a statement on Tuesday. “We are growing our rich library of content, consisting of original television series and blockbuster films that celebrate the MGM brand.”

Coming to the service are true-crime docu-series Murf the Surf, about surfer, jewel thief, con man and murderer Jack Murphy, on February 5; six-episode limited series A Spy Among Friends, starring Damian Lewis and Guy Pierce, on March 12; and season two of sci-fi horror series, From, on April 23.

These three series join previously greenlit series Hotel Cocaine, which comes from executive producer Chris Brancato and will start production in May in the Dominican Republic, and two-part docu-series San Francisco Sounds (working title), which is scheduled to premiere next fall.

MGM Plus also has renewed Rogue Heroes and Billy the Kid for second seasons.

In development at the streaming service are scripted series The Emperor of Ocean Park, based on Stephen L. Carter's novel; Hoodlum, based on the 1997 MGM film written by Brancato; Earth Abides, based on the novel by George R. Stewart; half-hour comedy American Classic, starring Kevin Kline as an actor who returns to his hometown after suffering a huge meltdown in public; and sci-fi drama Ark, based on Stephen Baxter's books.

On the docuseries side, MGM Plus is developing Hollywood Black, based on the book by Donald Bogle; Hot Stuff about the rise of disco in the ‘70s; The Devil Within, based on the Cavalry Audio podcast of the same title; and Wonderland Murders and the Secret History of Hollywood, executive produced by crime novelist Michael Connelly.

MGM Plus also offers theatrical movies, including Top Gun: Maverick, No Time to Die and other James Bond films; House of Gucci, starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver; and such classics as The Silence of the Lambs, Platoon, Robocop, The Magnificent Seven, The Wolf of Wall Street and many more.
