A child who appears to be the chosen one must gather a group of intergalactic warriors to fight off the evil empire in Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon, with part one coming to Netflix December 22.
Kora (Sofia Boutella) is a stranger living among peaceful villages when an invasion from a despotic ruler, Regent Balisarius (Fra Free) threatens. Kora finds herself tasked with finding fighters who can make a stand against Balisarius and the Mother World, and she goes out and assembles a small band of outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war who are all seeking revenge.
The cast also includes Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Ray Fisher, Anthony Hopkins, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, Cleopatra Coleman, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Sky Yang and more.
Inspired by Kurosawa movies and Star Wars – and indeed, Rebel Moon was first a pre-Disney Stars Wars pitch – Snyder wrote the script with two of his previous collaborators: Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) and Kurt Johnstad (300). Snyder, his wife Deborah, and Wesley Coller produce through their company The Stone Quarry. Eric Newman and Sarah Bowen also executive produce via their Grand Electric banner.
Snyder previously produced Army of the Dead and Army of Thieves for Netflix and is working on a sequel and anime spinoff series in that universe, according to Variety. Besides Netflix, Snyder also has directed 300 and Justice League for Warner Bros.
After part one, “A Child of Fire,” drops on December 22, part two, “The Scargiver,” will arrive April 19, 2024.
