Since Freeform dropped the season-two trailer for its summer hit, Cruel Summer, the spot has gathered more than 24 million viewers across social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube, according to Deadline. That puts it on track to become the network's most-viewed trailer ever.
“Fans have been eagerly awaiting season two of Cruel Summer and we are so happy to see them engaging with the new trailer,” Simran Sethi, executive vice president, programming and content strategy, ABC Entertainment and Freeform, told the publication. “The imaginative creative team has outdone themselves with the new and intriguing mystery at the center of this next chapter.”
Cruel Summer, which is set in a waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, tells its story from three different timelines set in 2000. It tracks the friendships – and eventual love triangle – between honor student Megan (Sadie Stanley), exchange student Isabella (Lexi Underwood) and Megan's lifelong best friend Luke (Griffin Gluck).
Besides that trio, the series also stars KaDee Strickland, Lisa Yamada and Sean Blakemore with Paul Adelstein and Braeden De La Garza recurring.
Cruel Summer comes from studio eOne and was created by Bert V. Royal. Elle Triedman serves as showrunner. Executive producers include Triedman, Bill Purple, Tia Napolitano and Iron Ocean Productions' Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple. The series is produced and distributed internationally by eOne.
Season two of Cruel Summer debuts with a two-episode premiere June 5 on Freeform and June 6 on Hulu.
