Five years after initially expanding to Los Angeles, global creative company Alkemy X has doubled its West Coast staff. New hires include Ben Benedetti as head of production, VFX; Sarah Grieshammer as VFX supervisor; Jimmy Smith and Brian Hayman as compositors; Anthony Chiarantano as VFX producer; Michael Hall as digital production manager; Cat Shen as CG generalist; Natasha Young as VFX coordinator; and Sean Jackson as senior 3D generalist.
Alkemy X also has added an office in Vancouver, led by Michael Porterfield, head of 2D.
Alkemy X's VFX team has recently worked on such TV series as Prime Video's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, HBO's Westworld, The Righteous Gemstones, The Gilded Age and Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark; Starz' Power Book III: Raising Kanan; and AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. On the theatrical side, the company has contributed to Oscar-nominated film The Whale and In the Heights, adapted from Lin Manuel Miranda's Broadway show. With so many TV series and movies relying on VFX to tell their stories, the industry VFX shops have been taxed like never before.
“As the scope of work we are being called upon to produce continues to expand, growing our team with seasoned, best-of-the-best talent has been a top priority, “aid Alkemy X CEO Justin Wineburgh in a statement. “While we maintain a global footprint, Los Angeles has been a key market as we've continued to bring on more high-end series work out of some of Hollywood's top studios. We are continually striving to ensure that our already amazing team continues to grow to reflect the caliber of those projects.”
The recent additions join the team in Los Angeles that includes Executive Creative Director Rupert Cresswell leading the design team; Executive Creative Director, VFX Jep Hill overseeing creative output for the global VFX department; and Executive Producer/Business Development VFX Mark Miller leading the VFX team.
Besides Los Angeles and Vancouver, Alkemy X has offices in Philadelphia, New York and Amsterdam. It also offers design, live action, editorial, sound design, production services and more.
