While Hollywood ramps up production after the end of the writers and actors strikes, networks are increasingly borrowing from affiliated platforms to fill out their programming.
On Thursday, ABC said it would air Hulu's Emmy-nominated Only Murders in the Building for four weeks in January. It's a trend that could continue as companies look to trim production costs and consolidate viewing across their platforms. Disney owns ABC, Hulu and 20th Television, the studio that produces the show.
Only Murders in the Building – which stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez – will air every Tuesday night from 9 to 11 p.m. ET/PT starting January 2 with the first three episodes. The season-one finale will be broadcast on Tuesday, January 23 from 9 to 10 p.m. PT/ET. Celebrity Jeopardy! will lead into the show at 8 p.m.
Only Murders in the Building follows three true-crime obsessed strangers who all live in the same exclusive Upper West side apartment building. When a murder takes place, the trio find each other and begin investigating and of course, start their own true-crime podcast to document their findings.
Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for season four on Hulu. Season three, which premiered on Hulu on August 8, guest-starred Paul Rudd and Meryl Streep.
Only Murders in the Building comes from co-creators and writers Steve Martin and John Hoffman (Grace & Frankie, Looking). Martin and Hoffman executive produce along with Short, Gomez, Jamie Babbit, Dan Fogelman (This Is Us) and Jess Rosenthal. The series is produced by 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios.
