Co-creator, EP Neil Druckmann confirmed at CES on Monday.

More than two years after season one became HBO’s most-watched debut season ever, The Last of Us will finally return in April, series co-creator, executive producer and writer Neil Druckman said Monday at Sony’s press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Season two, based on part two of the video game of the same name, picks up five years after season one left off. Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) have settled in a community in Jackson, Wyoming, with Joel’s brother, Tommy (Gabriel Luna), and his wife, Maria (Rutina Wesley).

Although Joel saved Ellie from her fate in season one, their relationship has deteriorated. Moreover, the world around them, already dangerous and unpredictable in the wake of a zombie apocalypse, has only gotten worse.

The Last Of Us, based on the video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog for Sony PlayStation, is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Druckmann. The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and is also executive produced by Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan and Evan Wells along with writer/co-executive producer Halley Gross. The series will debut on HBO and be available to stream on Max.
