New Land, Zealot are Global and North America Agencies of the Year.

FX was named Creative Marketing Team of the Year in the Global Entertainment Marketing Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (G.E.M.A.)’s two major annual competitions: the North America TV/Streaming and Global TV/Streaming Awards on Thursday night in Los Angeles.

G.E.M.A. celebrated the winners of four competitions: North America, Global, Latin America and Local. Only the North America and Global competitions offer “Of the Year” honors. Awards are handed out across several categories, including trailers, promos, brand campaigns, idents, key art, social media and more.

Scandinavian agency New Land won the title of Global Agency of the Year while Zealot took home the honor of North America Agency of the Year. In spring 2024, New Land was named G.E.M.A.’s Europe Agency of the Year while Zealot was previously named North America Agency of the Year in 2022.

Also nominated for North America TV/Streaming Creative Marketing Team of the Year were Disney Entertainment Television, HBO/Max Original Marketing, National Geographic, Netflix and Paramount Plus with Showtime.

Joining New Land as Global TV/Streaming Agency of the Year nominees were Arsonal, Dutch Toast, Lindeman & Associates, Spaceman and Tricefalo Studio. And finally, joining Zealot as North America TV/Streaming Agency of the Year nominees are Arsonal, Buddha Jones, Leroy & Rose, Lindeman & Associates and Trailer Park.

Global entertainment marketing association Promax was repositioned as an academy in February, expanding its purview from TV and streaming to film, music, sports and video games. G.E.M.A. offers memberships across different tiers to entertainment marketers around the globe as well as honoring their best work through a variety of awards competitions. This was the first year the Global, North America, Latin America and Local TV/Streaming Awards were handed out under the new moniker.

“G.E.M.A. is thrilled to honor outstanding work from around the globe in its first TV/Streaming Awards celebration in our new configuration,” said Stacy La Cotera, president and CEO of G.E.M.A. “We were privileged to see so much of the best work that this industry has to offer through these competitions and we congratulate FX, New Land and Zealot on their outstanding ‘of the year’ wins.”

G.E.M.A. held the ceremony at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles with stand-up comedian, actor and writer Ron Funches serving as the evening’s emcee. G.E.M.A. also introduced its Spotlight Honors, which “recognize innovation and inspiration across the transmedia landscape,” said La Cotera. The inaugural Spotlight honorees were Riot Games, which has extended its popular multiplayer online battle arena game, League of Legends, into the worlds of music, esports and television; and YouTube’s Reel Rejects, which has produced more than 7,000 videos reacting to movies, TV shows, trailers and more.

“Both Riot Games and Reel Rejects are creative enterprises who have successfully extended their brands across platforms to reach fans wherever they may be,” La Cotera said. “We are privileged to honor both of them with our first-ever Spotlight Honors.”

In both the Global and North America TV/Streaming competitions, nominees and winners are decided via two rounds of judging. The first round, which was conducted via online voting for both competitions, determined the nominees. Each entry is evaluated and scored based on overall creativity, originality of concept and message effectiveness.

In the second round, a jury of industry peers selected the winners. The Global TV/Streaming jury also met virtually for this round, while the North America TV/Streaming jury held in-person sessions in New York and Los Angeles as well as a third virtual session.
