If hockey can do it, why not soccer?
Set to Elvis Presley, the King himself, singing Man of La Mancha’s “Impossible Dream,” Fox Sports imagines what it would be like if the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team wins it all during this summer’s FIFA World Cup, which will be played between 48 teams from around the world across 16 host cities in Canada, Mexico and the U.S.
"The 2026 World Cup is going to be an event unlike anything this country has ever seen before – more teams, more matches and it’s happening right here in our own backyard on America’s 250th birthday. We couldn’t think of a better way to capture the American spirit and this celebratory moment than dreaming of what it might look like if the U.S. won it all," said Robert Gottlieb, president, marketing, Fox Sports, in a statement. "Our campaign invites fans to imagine the ‘what if?’ and feel the excitement a tournament of this magnitude brings."
The spot, titled "Miracle," premiered in Fox’s broadcast of Major League Baseball on Saturday, May 2, with additional installments of the campaign rolling out in coming weeks. “Miracle” was produced by Fox Sports in collaboration with its frequent production partner Special US. It features such stars as Fox Sports lead NFL analyst Tom Brady, new Fox Sports FIFA World Cup 2026 analyst Zlatan Ibrahimović, former USMNT head coach Bruce Arena and U.S. hockey legend Mike Eruzione. Park Pictures’ Lance Acord directed.
After the U.S. wins it all with a penalty kick into the goal in the last seconds of the final match and the entire country celebrates, Brady shaves Ibrahimović’s head, apparently the loser of a bet between them.
"Zlatan is a good sport, and I had a blast filming the promo," said Brady in a statement. "Everyone will be watching the World Cup this summer, and I can’t wait to see what our U.S. team can do when they compete against the best in the world."
As the fantasy fades out, the camera turns to two friends having beers in a bar, considering whether their dreams can come true. Who else should also be sitting at that bar but Mike Eruzione, captain of the U.S. men’s hockey team that won Olympic gold in 1980. Eruzione asks the two men, “What, you don’t believe in miracles?”
That union of comedy and hope is a core part of the long-standing partnership between Fox Sports and Special US, with collaborations across multiple sports, including its Emmy‑nominated "Fastest Racing on Earth" Indycar campaign.
"We really wanted the tone of this spot to evolve as you watch it, beginning with something that feels like it’s grounded, but quickly grows to be more and more improbable until finally reality can’t resist calling," said Matthew Woodhams Roberts, chief creative officer of Special US, also in a statement. "Of course, then we have Mike Eruzione and a living reminder that no dream is too big. So, we’re saying there’s a chance…maybe."
The FIFA World Cup begins Thursday, June 11 and runs through Sunday, July 19. In the U.S., it will be broadcast in English on the platforms of Fox Sports and in Spanish on NBCUniversal’s Telemundo.
