Matt Bussmann has joined Sibling Rivalry’s roster of directors.
Bussmann refined his skills directing hundreds of commercials for such brands as Disney, Verizon, Coca-Cola, Sony, Samsung and Porsche among many others. He has collaborated with top global agencies including Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi, BBDO, Publicis and DDB.
As a young director, Bussman was inspired by the experimental aesthetic of music videos. His fascination for the visual and culturally relevant remains a part of his directorial approach today.
“I’m an observer of what’s out there—what’s connecting with audiences—and use that to create something unexpected and fresh,” said Bussmann in a statement. “My style changes through the phases—I’m always hunting and riding the zeitgeist. What remains constant is a desire to create work as visual as it is driven by performance.”
He honed his craft as a filmmaker from an early age, rapidly working his way up from intern to director—without university, forming a holistic understanding of the entire creative process. “I learned from throwing myself in the deep end,” said Bussmann, who landed his first paid job as a director while still interning at a post-production house.
Working internationally from his base in Germany, Bussmann’s appointment to Sibling Rivalry extends his scope for commercial work across the US market. It was Sibling Rivalry’s reputation as a director-run, design-driven company that attracted Bussmann to the team.
“I had heard so many great things about Sibling Rivalry,” says Bussmann. “This is a partner with truly strong ideas, stretching far beyond film production. I am super excited to get on board and create awesome commercials together.”
“We’re thrilled to have Matt’s incredible talent on our roster. He’s a die-hard artist and a master at uncovering new ways of enhancing aesthetics, ideas, and narratives to create knock-out, sensory visuals. We can’t wait to see what more we can create together,” said David Brickel, managing director/executive producer at Sibling Films, also in a statement.
