MixCode Studio invites viewers into the world of Taiwan’s crime thriller Million-Follower Detective via main titles that merge high-tech, high art and high impact.
“The sequence portrays the inner uncertainty experienced when seeking answers, while also echoing the suspenseful atmosphere of a mystery narrative, where everyone is a suspect,” executive producers Chiunyi Ko and TuBo Lee told Stash.
The animated sequence, which varies from bright to muted, uses a blurred effect to usher viewers into a dream-like space. The ever-shifting palette relies on many shades of blue tied together with magenta and purple and shot through with occasional flashes of pale yellow and peachy orange.
“Echoing the lighting and set design of the production, a deep blue base is accented with vibrant neon hues and stark contrasts of light and shadow, evoking the digital influencer era and an atmosphere of suspense and tension,” Ko and Lee continued.
Million-Follower Detective is a crime thriller set in today’s world as veteran detective Chen Chia-jen (Ekin Cheng) tries to uncover the true identity of masked online prophet Witch Baba, who is linked to the murders of several influencers. Witch Baba’s prophecies, which thus far have always come true, are concurrently being investigated by online observers, with more than a million people ultimately joining the discussion. But as Chen digs deeper, he realizes that the mystery’s solution could lie close to home.
Million-Follower Detective started streaming on Netflix in the U.S, in February.
