Gédéon Spotlights France Télévisions’ ‘Cinéma de Minuit’
INTROSTORYGALLERYCREDITS
French program showcasing classic cinema has been airing for nearly 50 years.

Paris-based Gédéon modernized the look of France Télévisions’ nearly 50-year-old program, Cinéma de Minuit, giving it a fresh logo and opener while holding on to its cinephile feel.

For the new open, Gédéon turned the angles between the letter M into spotlights, a “subtle nod to the diverse genres of classic cinema,” the company said on its website. Gédéon had fun playing with saturated colors against diffuse light as it moves through the animated sequence.

Cinéma de Minuit (translated: Midnight Movies) has aired on France TV since March 1976, always just before midnight although the series has moved channels and days throughout its run. The program is dedicated to showcasing classic films from the 1920s through the 1970s.

While the look is totally new, Gédéon opted to keep the music, which was composed by Francis Lai, renowned French composer of many film scores.

“This music has been remixed into a new version to give it a fresh feel, with a more dynamic and engaging rhythm while staying true to the original melody,” wrote Gédéon on its website. “We also added voice samples extracted from classic films to enhance the emotional impact of this soundtrack even further.”
