FX kicked off a series of immersive experiences for its new sci-fi series, Alien: Earth, at SXSW in Austin over the weekend.

FX first teased the event across its social platforms, inviting SXSW attendees to step into mysterious wreckage and engage in an interactive experience that includes exclusive giveaways and photo opportunities.

At SXSW, visitors to the experience will first be scanned for alien parasites before they are given credentials and instructions to embark on an exploratory mission through the wreckage. There, they will have the chance to get up close and personal with (dangerous?) alien specimens. And as you might have suspected, all is not entirely well on the destroyed spacecraft – not everyone survived the crash and a containment breach occurred within.

Simultaneously, FX piqued the interest of franchise fans and top creators with a custom mailer:

The mailer also includes a custom cat cam, as per the video below:

As the campaign rolls out over the next three months, it will include additional social teasers, out-of-home elements and other multi-market stunts. The Westin Downtown Austin also has been wrapped with Alien: Earth key art for the duration of SXSW.

Alien: Earth stars Sydney Chandler, a young woman who is there when a group of soldiers discovers an alien vessel crash-landed on Earth. Besides Chandler, the series also stars Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille and Moe Bar-El. The series is created and executive produced by Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion).

Alien: Earth is coming to Hulu this summer. Fans who want to be in the know can sign up for text alerts
