During a family trip to the beach, a young boy meets an adorable pink octopus and the bond between them is immediate and literal.
Since the octopus has glued himself to the boy’s head, he comes home with the family where he learns all about the world outside of his ocean home. (Never mind that octopi can’t survive for long out of water.) On a journey of discovery with his new human friend, the octopus learns all about toys (often Disney-themed, natch), music, the solar system and even dips his tentacle into the boy’s bedroom aquarium. Sharp-eyed viewers will see nods to many Disney properties throughout the piece.
As the two venture forth, the octopus gets more and more curious. Finally, he discovers Christmas and he and the boy devise a way for the octopus to meet Santa Claus and fly off on his next adventure. It’s all set to an instrumental rendition of an appropriate Disney song: “Part of Your World,” from The Little Mermaid.
The short, which was shot in Mallorca and Prague, was directed by Taika Waititi. Agency adam&eveDDB concocted the story, while Untold Studios created the little pink octopus with giant eyes.
Disney’s EMEA holiday campaign is again supporting Make-A-Wish International, with whom it has a 44-year-long partnership.
