“Some people look at Sonny Hayes. They see a guy who lives in a van, a gambling junkie who missed his shot, the best that never was, but I see … possibility,” says Xavier Bardem in voiceover to launch Apple Original Films' F1 trailer on Thursday.

As Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” kicks in, so does the high-speed footage of drivers speeding around tracks from England to Italy to Dubai, Las Vegas and beyond. The movie, helmed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski, was shot with the full participation of the global racing league. Kosinksi traveled around the world several times to produce the film -- first to watch F1 races and get a feel for them and then to shoot the movie in between qualifying and practice runs at live events.

F1 stars Brad Pitt – also an executive producer on the film – as the aforementioned Hayes. Hayes is an aging veteran who is recruited by his former teammate, Ruben Cervantes (Bardem)to help failing F1 team APXGP. Damson Idris (FX’s Snowfall) stars as an upstart rookie who Hayes has been brought on to instruct. Neither man is super excited about the other, as the trailer amply illustrates.

In addition, F1 stars Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inishirin), Tobias Menzies (Outlander, Game of Thrones), Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve), Sarah Niles (Ted Lasso), Samson Kayo (House of the Dragon) and Simone Ashley (Bridgerton). Sharp-eyed fans will also discover several current F1 drivers popping up in the film.

Besides Kosinki, F1 is executive produced by seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton and Jerry Bruckheimer along with Plan B’s Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, and Chad Oman.

F1 premieres in theaters in June.
